I have it; you can borrow it

(2 of 4)

F: Direct communication or ‘real contact’ gets to this idea of an ‘oceanic feeling’ – wanting that with the world. Wanting to feel connected beyond one’s own boundary to everything else, and to not be so bounded.

So many things make me feel claustrophobic, and that seems to be a real concern for me. Not being able to wear tight shoes, or wear perfume – you can’t get away from it; it makes me feel stuck in a way that I don’t enjoy.

Looking at the work that I make, and the work that you make, there’s a strong connection to bodiness and embodied-ness, and there’s a strong connection within that to boundary. We’re talking about this ‘oceanic feeling,’ this wanting to connect to everything, but the things themselves are these bounded entities.
