Artist-to-Artist Conversations are back!

We are so excited to announce a partnership with Centrum Foundation, specifically focused on the community fostered by their Emerging Artist Residency. As someone who went through the program in 2016 and met a couple of people who I am lucky to consider friends today, I was really excited when Michelle Hagewood, director of Centrum’s artist residency program, approached me and Matt about the possibility of a partnership. We all felt that we have a shared mission of creating cross-geographical connections and community-wide conversations throughout our region. Working together on a series seemed like a logical and exciting choice.

So for the next three months, we will be introducing three artist pairings that are derived from the EAR alumni pool. We will publish weekly excerpts of their conversation over the course of the month as a part of our Artist-to-Artist series, and the full conversation (edited for clarity) will be released on Centrum’s website as part of a new podcast, Artists in Place, that Michelle is heading up, discussing art in the broader Northwest community. We will post links to the podcasts as they are released.

Our first pairing is manuel arturo abreu and Jaleesa Johnston, and we will start releasing excerpts of their conversation next Tuesday.

And for those who are interested, here is how the partnership works: The pairs were selected by me, with feedback from Matt and Michelle, and the conversations between the artists have been self-directed. Each artist is being paid $150 for their time, and New Archives is receiving $300 per conversation for admin and transcription work.
